A hearty thank-you to all who helped out with this past week's Special Meetings. It was a real blessing to have Pastor Scott Deane (And Hannah) with us; it was a blessing to fellowship with one another, as well. We appreciate those who prepared and brought food, worked in the kitchen, drove the van, operated the sound system, invited Scott & Hannah to their home or took them out for a meal, etc. Special thanks to Joseph and Jamie for hosting the Deane's this past week.

Over 30 of our young people (and chaperones) are in Georgia this weekend, participating in a service project (Homeless Shelter, downtown Atlanta). They also plan to take in a Braves game and will attend and participate in services at Cornerstone Church today. We're proud of all our youth and their teachers/leaders.

EVERYONE is invited to attend the Sunday night, August 22 Game Night (Sponsored by Sister's Act) Please bring your favorite board game and finger snacks. We hope to see you at this fun-filled 6 pm event for all ages. Nominations are being sought for the positions of Vice President and Treasurer of the Carolina Conference. If you are interested and feel led to serve in either of these capacities, please speak to someone right away. The positions will be filled at the August 29th Conference Business Meeting at Guthrie Grove.

If you buy Kraft cheese singles Pastor Jim would like to have the package/outside wrapper to help get reduced prices for a group trip to a Drive baseball game.

Toys needed! Several of our churches in Africa have founded orphanages and are in need of new and/or used toys. The children range from 6 months to 8 yrs. old. You can also donate money to help with food needed. Toys will be collected until Oct 12; see the box in the entryway. Your help is appreciated.

The 33rd Annual Midnight Flight (1 mile, 5K, or 10K) is Friday, Sep 3 at the Anderson Area YMCA. Interested in running? (Register on-line: late registration starts Monday, August 29th)

A Little Humor...
There once was a king who lived in two-story grass hut. Every holiday, the king demanded to be given a new throne as a gift. As soon as a new throne arrived, he would store the old throne on the second level of his hut and use the new one instead. But one day the hut collapsed from the weight of all the thrones, and everyone was crushed and killed. The moral of this story? (Those who live in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones)

Can'ts and Cans...
If you would have some worthwhile plans, you've got to watch your can'ts & cans;
You can't aim low and then rise high;
you can't succeed if you don't try;
You can't go wrong and come out right;
you can't love sin and walk in light;
You can't throw time and means away and live sublime from day to day.
